01 Introduction
DirPilot (“we”, “us”) runs a directory submission service and the Hangar, a directory of new tools. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use dirpilot.com and how we use it.
02 Information you give us
Your account
When you create an account we store your name, email address and, if you choose one, a profile photo. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication; we never see or store them. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email and photo from Google.
Your products and bookings
When you submit a tool, book a directory submission or ask us to add your directory, we store what you enter: product name, website, descriptions, category, tags, country, logo and screenshots, plus the details of your order.
Your public profile
Your pilot profile shows your name, photo, bio, social links, the tools you have launched, the tools you have cleared and the comments you post. Anyone can see it. Your email address is never shown publicly.
03 Information we collect automatically
We count how many times a tool's page is viewed and how many times its website link is clicked, with the date of each click. These counts are anonymous: we do not store who viewed or clicked. Clicks are only shown to the tool's owner.
We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used: which pages are visited, how people arrive, and general device and location information (country or city level). It sets cookies to tell visits apart. We use it only for statistics, not for advertising.
Your browser keeps a few things locally (in localStorage), such as an unsent form draft, your light or dark theme, and which views were already counted. They stay on your device.
Links we send you to other sites (for example a directory on our departures board) may include ?ref=dirpilot so that site knows the visit came from us. It does not identify you.
04 How we use your information
- To run your account and show your listings, bookings and stats in your dashboard.
- To deliver what you paid for: submitting your product to directories, publishing your Hangar listing, or adding your directory.
- To send emails about your account and orders (confirmations, review results, reports).
- To send the DirPilot newsletter. New accounts are added to it; you can ask to be removed at any time.
- To keep the service safe, for example to stop duplicate or abusive submissions.
05 Services that process your data
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only with the providers that run parts of DirPilot for us, and only what each one needs:
- Google Firebase: accounts, sign-in and our database.
- Stripe: payments. Your card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them.
- Google Workspace: the emails we send you.
- Google Analytics: anonymous statistics about how the site is used.
- OpenAI: when you use “Fill this in with AI”, the address and public text of the website you enter are sent to generate a draft listing.
- Screenshot services (RapidAPI, Microlink): when you ask for a screenshot, they receive the website address you entered.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
06 How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account exists. Order records are kept as long as needed for accounting and tax purposes. A checkout you leave without paying is deleted straight away, along with the unpaid listing.
07 Your rights
You can update your name, photo, bio and links from your account settings at any time. To get a copy of your data, unsubscribe from the newsletter, or delete your account and the data tied to it, email [email protected]. We answer within 30 days.
08 Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including access rules on our database and encrypted connections. No online service is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
09 Links to other sites
DirPilot links to many third-party websites: directories, tools in the Hangar and makers' profiles. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please read their own policies.
10 Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If the changes are significant, we will tell you by email or with a notice on the site. The date at the top shows the latest version.
