Dofollow link checker
Paste a page that links to you and your domain. We read the page the way a crawler first sees it, and tell you whether your link is followed and whether anything on the page cancels it.
What we check
Six things that decide whether a link counts
Each link's rel attribute
Every link to your domain, image links included, and whether it carries nofollow, ugc or sponsored.
Robots meta and headers
A page-wide noindex or nofollow, in the HTML or in the X-Robots-Tag header, including rules meant only for Googlebot.
robots.txt
Whether Googlebot may fetch the page at all, and the rule that decides it.
Canonical
Whether the page names a different address as its main version, which search engines may index instead.
Status and redirects
The HTTP status, and each redirect between the address you pasted and the page you end up on.
Hidden redirects
Outbound links routed through the directory's own /go/ or ?url= pages, which point at the directory instead of you.
Reading the result
What each verdict means
- Followed
No nofollow, ugc or sponsored on your link, and nothing on the page tells search engines to ignore it. It's eligible to pass ranking credit.
- Nofollow, ugc or sponsored
Search engines are asked not to treat the link as an endorsement. It still sends visitors, and the listing can still help people find you.
- Cancelled by the page
Your link is followed, but the page is set to noindex, nofollows every link, or is blocked by robots.txt. The link is unlikely to count.
- No link found
The HTML has no link to your domain. Check the page and the listing; the card says if links go through a redirect or load with JavaScript.
- Turned away
The site refused our checker (often HTTP 403 or 429). That's about bots, not Google. Check the link by hand in your browser.
The checker reads the HTML a page sends, like a crawler's first pass. It can't see inside Google, so it can't tell you whether the page is indexed or how much a link is worth. For that, use the Links report in Google Search Console. For more on link types, read what we found across every directory we track.
FAQ
Common questions
What's the difference between a dofollow and a nofollow link?
A link is followed unless its rel attribute includes nofollow, ugc or sponsored. "Dofollow" is shorthand for a link without any of those; there's no dofollow attribute.
Google treats all three as hints, so it may still crawl a nofollow link, and it may ignore a followed one.
Why is my link followed but the page still cancels it?
Signals on the page override the link: noindex in a robots meta tag or X-Robots-Tag header, a page-wide nofollow, or a robots.txt rule that stops Googlebot fetching the page. A link on a page search engines won't index or can't fetch is unlikely to count.
I can see my link, but the checker found none. Why?
Usually one of three things. The link is added with JavaScript after the page loads, and we read the HTML the server sends (Google renders JavaScript, so it may still see it). The link goes through the directory's own redirect, like /go/your-tool, so it doesn't point at your domain. Or you're signed in and see a version of the page visitors don't.
Does a followed link mean Google counts it?
No tool outside Google can promise that. A followed link on an indexable page that crawlers can fetch is eligible to pass ranking credit; whether Google uses it depends on the page, the site and whether the link reads like a genuine recommendation.
Google's spam policies say links from low-quality directories, or links bought to pass ranking credit, can be ignored.
Why did a site turn the checker away?
Some sites block automated requests and answer with HTTP 403 or 429. We identify ourselves as DirPilotBot and don't try to get around blocks. Open the page in your browser, right-click your link, choose Inspect, and read its rel attribute.
Do you store the pages I check?
No. The check runs and the result comes back to your browser; we don't save the pages or domains you enter. To keep the tool fair for everyone, we count checks per visitor for an hour, in memory only.
Rather we did the submitting?
We submit your product by hand, write a description for each directory, and check every link before we report it.
