Tips

Images that get approved

  • 01

    Show the product in use

A screenshot of the main screen doing its job beats a marketing banner. Reviewers and visitors want to see what they'd be using.

  • 02

    Test the logo small

Most directories show your logo at 40 to 80 pixels. If the mark doesn't read at 128 pixels, use a simpler version of it (often just the symbol).

  • 03

Keep text out of the logo square

A wordmark squeezed into a square turns illegible. Use the symbol for square slots and your name in the name field.

  • 04

    Stay under 2 MB

Several submission forms cap uploads around 2 MB. If a screenshot is bigger, switch it to JPG: the kit shows each file's size.

FAQ

Common questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The kit resizes your images with your browser's canvas, on your device. Nothing is sent to DirPilot or anyone else, and closing the tab clears it.

Which sizes does Product Hunt use?

Product Hunt recommends a 240 × 240 thumbnail and gallery images of 1270 × 760. The kit makes both. Check the launch form when you submit, because platforms change their sizes from time to time.

PNG or JPG?

PNG for logos and for screenshots with sharp interface text: it keeps edges crisp and supports transparency. JPG for photo-heavy screenshots, or whenever a PNG comes out over a form's upload limit.

What's the difference between Fill and Fit inside?

Fill covers the whole size and crops what doesn't fit, keeping the top of the screenshot (where a page's key content usually is). Fit inside keeps the whole screenshot and fills the space around it, by default with the colour of its own edge so the border blends in.

My logo looks blurry. What can I do?

Start from a bigger file: at least 512 pixels square, or an SVG, which stays sharp at every size. Scaling a small logo up can't add detail that isn't there.
